E.S.A FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

E.S.A. Fellowship Program

During the Meeting in Bergen (2003) the European Strabismological Association  has established a fellowship for training in strabismus.

The fellowship will be supported in the amount of 3.000-6.000 Euro for a period of 3 or 6 months, respectively. The fellowship should be provided annually, dependent on the financial status of the ESA account.

The fellowship is aiming to make it possible for the candidate – ophthalmologist who already has some experience and background in this area – to continue or complete training in strabismology.

The requirements for application will include his or her clinical and research qualifications, a curriculum vitae and list of publications, evidence of completion of training in ophthalmology, as well as information with regard to language abilities and letters of recommendation.

The Fellowship Committee consists of 4 ESA Members, including the Secretary-Treasurer, appointed by the Council.

The applicant must specify the training centre(s) that he or she wishes to study. The applicant also must present a letter of support from the Head of the Centre/Hospital/University he/she wants to do the fellowship. In all cases the training centre must be supervised by an ESA Member. At the end of the fellowship programme a report is required both from the supervisor and the ESA fellow within 2 months.

The applications should be addressed to the Secretary-Treasurer by 31st of October at the latest. The Fellowship Committee should finalize the evaluation of the applications within 6 weeks.
